If your child is under 2 years old, apply makeup sparingly to the lips, nose and cheeks.
Test any product first on the inside of your child’s arm.
Plan your route and visit familiar family, friends and neighborhoods.
Explain trick or treating in advance to your child.
Check your children’s candies before they eat them.
Choose appropriate footwear.
Keep in mind that accessories can be cumbersome and easily lost.
Venture out at dusk and call it quits as soon as your little one becomes tired.
If your child finds trick or treating scary, host a Halloween parade. Invite friends and family to your home to “show off” their costumes. Read a Halloween book or look at a movie such as Casper. Offer orange Jell-O, or serve chocolate pumpkin cupcakes. Offer punch to your guests straight from a big pumpkin.
Don’t forget to eat before you head out the door.
Stick as close as possible to your child’s regular bedtime schedule.
Visit a pumpkin patch with your family.
Join in on some of the local community fun.
Help your children decorate for Halloween.
Bob for apples. Float apples in a bucket of water and challenge guests to grab one – without using their hands.

Use an ice-cream scoop or a soup ladle to scoop out the pumpkin quickly and evenly.
Prevent your jack-o’-lantern from drying out by applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly to cut surfaces.
Younger children can paint faces on pumpkins instead of carving them.
